Getting Kids On The Right Track To Eating Healthy

Getting children on the right track towards balanced eating as early as possible is the best way to growing happy and healthy children. Yet, getting kids to eat right is not always the easiest thing to do. Depriving children of their favorite foods can set the stage for an onslaught of problems in the future. In my opinion many kids get hooked on poor foods quickly and at an early stage in life.
Foods that are low in nutrition often displace other healthier food options. It’s easy to open a bag and start eating chips or cookies…So you’ll need to re-think your approach and re-introduce healthy foods with fun and flair. You do not have to spend lots of time doing this; a little creativity goes a long way. Here are a few examples:
One way is to put a variety of colorful foods in front of your child, on the dinner table and keep a bowl of color on the kitchen table (you’d be surprised how they gravitate towards the food that is easy to get a hold of); it does not have to be on the plate. Let visual curiosity rule your child’s palette.
Allow your child to become a chef and create foods that look like desserts and also include a few different colors while encouraging them to choose a rainbow of colorful foods over the course of the day. If they get to pick their own colors/foods they will enjoy it almost as much as you are enjoying watching them eat their rainbow concoction.
Make protein shakes and add fruits/veggies
The best way to make a change is to make the change as a family. That means everyone in the family should try to eat the same way. Family Food Experts is a website that is dedicated to helping mom’s and kids make better food choices. Here’s the website:
www.betterfoodchoices.info/ .
If you take the kids to a drive-thru everyday they will not appreciate a good home cooked meal and it will be very unlikely that they will want to eat anything but the “foods” they are addicted to….salt, fat and sugar.
I’ve got more coming including how the whole community can pull together to get kids on the right track to eating healthy and I’ll post the rest on Friday, so stay tuned.
