Back in 2006, David Schipper, a writer for Men’s Health Magazine asked me to help him lose weight for his wedding. Yep, these days it ain’t just women who are trying to look good for the BIG day! Men, women and children can all benefit from sound nutritional advice about eating well.
“Lose 30 Pounds in 3 Months”, http://www.menshealth.com/weight-loss/diet-strategies-lose-30-pounds?fullpage=true, will give you the tips you need to lose any amount of weight. I recommend this as an easy to follow first step into better eating without having to count calories and avoiding the fat trap. The advice is not new but it is good.
People may say, you want to lose weight, “eat less, exercise more”. Sounds easy right?  But if you eat less and you are hungry, weight loss never happens because inevitably you cannot eat less and more often you eat more.
Just like what seems to be a common sense approach of “eating less, weighing less” may not always work for everyone, cutting out foods that are higher in calories and compromising nutrient density is not right for most of us.
Because there is so much misinformation and a lack of consistent information, I often try to guide people to answer their own questions about what works best for them. The answers that lies within you are usually the ones that work for you. Are there certain foods that make you more hunger or cause you to crave, which are more satisfying? Does your stomach act up after eating? Figure out what foods affect you and eat wisely.
A few years ago, you may never have seen a headline entitled, “Carbs Against Cardio” discussing how carbs not fat is linked to heart disease, http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=carbs-against-cardio. So what now after all these years of thinking, “I better not eat fat and then pigging out on non-fat pretzels”?
The excess carbohydrates effect health and make us crave more food. We have created nutritional deficiencies as a result of avoiding real natural fats. Eating a variety of foods including whole eggs and other villified foods like real foods that contain nutrients and just happen to have saturated fat also (peanut butter, coconut, steak) serves a purpose, http://valeriegoldstein.wordpress.com/2010/10/17/eat-saturated-fat-for-good-health/.
More and more people are testing cholesterol levels after eating more saturated fat and finding out the truth about what happens when you eat steak. “At a recent checkup, I was shocked: Even though I was eating foods rich in saturated fat and a seemingly more indulgent diet, my total cholesterol was down 10 points, my “bad” LDL cholesterol was stellar, and my “good” HDL was the highest it’s ever been. And bonus: I hadn’t gained any weight! How was that possible? Actually, the health benefits I experienced may be surprisingly common, a growing number of experts say.”   Read more at Fitness magazine, http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/recipes/healthy-eating/nutrition/good-and-bad-fats/.
When you nourish your body, everything else falls into place. The hunger goes away and you will lose weight with a lot less effort than it will take to lose weight by following advice that may or may not work for you. The nutrition and exercise suggestions, http://www.menshealth.com/weight-loss/diet-strategies-lose-30-pounds?fullpage=true, are oldies but goodies so follow them to shed the weight you need to lose.
